The golf course in Bad Neuenahr celebrated its 40th birthday in 2020. Reason enough to take a look at the past.

In the early 1960s, Bad Neuenahr''s city council was already considering adding a golf course to the city''s range of spa treatments.

It was still a long way from this idea to the inauguration of the 18-hole championship course on June 22, 1982 and the associated completion of the course.

On June 22, 1979, the Golf Club Köhlerhof Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler eV saw the light of the club register. This was the first decisive step into the future of golf on the Ahr.

Games officially started on August 30, 1980 with the opening of the driving range. A provisional 9-hole par-3 course is being laid out on the site where lanes 1 and 2 are located today, which will host the first competitions in 1980 and 1981.

Construction of the 18-hole championship course begins in May 1981. At the same time, the Köhlerhof building is being renovated and the Köhlerstübchen is being opened as a temporary clubhouse. Tennis courts are supposed to offer variety to non-golfers and with the construction of the gatekeeper and supervisory house as well as the caddy house including racket washing area, the construction of the golf course is taking on visible traits.

When the 18-hole course opened on June 22, 1982, the golf club already had 250 members. A few years later, however, the dream of golfing on the Ahr threatens to burst. Increasing rumors and fears about an impending collapse of the club caused unrest for many months. The final ''off'' follows and the system falls back to the city.

On December 31, 1986, the three previous members Olaf Junge, Gerd Rieg and Dieter Strunk signed the last contracts with the city administration in order to initiate the new chapter of golf on the Ahr on New Year''s Day 1987: the Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler Golf and Country Club now as a private club in the legal form of a KG.

The club has been owned by the Reischl family from Cologne since 2015.
