The Bergisch Land Golf Club was founded in 1928 on the initiative of Willy Schniewind. He had lost his heart to golf like hardly anyone in the German Reich at that time. Luckily his father owned the "Hof zur Mühlen", whose buildings you can still walk along on the way to the first tee, as well as some adjoining fields and woodland.

The senior provided the founding fathers of the Bergisch Land golf club with the space they needed for the historic 9-hole course to be designed by English golf course architect John SF Morrison.

In the summer of 1930 the first club championships were held; the clubhouse had already been inaugurated beforehand, a prefabricated house made of steel plates, which could be acquired very cheaply thanks to close contacts with the Krupp company.

After the Second World War, the Bergisch Land Golf Club was chosen in 1949 as the first venue for the National German Championships after a nine-year hiatus.
It wasn''t until 1951, however, that the English occupiers put the membership back in charge of the club. The English major, who initiated this milestone in the club''s history, began his speech with the unforgettable words: "Dear Germans [...]"

In 1952, the association day elected Willy Schniewind president of the German Golf Association (DGV).

In its chronicle, the DGV compares Willy Schniewind, who helped German golf to regain its international reputation after the war, with Konrad Adenauer and gives him the title “Golf Chancellor”.

In 1958, the golf course was expanded by a few holes for the first time. The German golf course architect Dr. Bernhard von Limburger played a leading role in the construction of the Löher 14-18, which was ceremonially inaugurated in July 1963.

The reputation of the Bergisch land golf club in top-class sport has grown steadily over the decades and so the 15-year-old Martin Kaymer was also drawn to Wuppertal at the turn of the millennium.

The golf course and the clubhouse have been repeatedly expanded and renovated in recent years in order to meet the demands of modern golf.
